How to Build a Wiccan Spell Altars

Creating your own wicca spell altar can be a challenge especially if you are new to the wicca religion. Well the first step you need to do when creating your witchcraft space is for you to thoroughly clean your altar room. It is recommended that when cleaning the room you use sea salt mixed water. If you cannot locate sea salt, then you can use any cleaning supply mixture.

Secondly, it is necessary that you scrub down the floor, ceiling, and walls of your altar. Thus, you must ensure that the room is conveniently organized, and be sure to pick up all clutter and mess, as this will make it easier to control the collected energy.

You must then determine where the four Cardinal points are in position to your altar (East, West, North and South). You can do this task by using a compass, or you can easily just ask someone who you think may know. The reason why you are determining this, is because your altar must be set up facing the north, because the Earth is directed facing the North and this in turn would enable you to collect the most energy from this direction.

Next you must position and mark your circle. To do this, it is best that you use a white cord, or any small sacred objects (figurines or candles preferably). If you have sufficient room, well you can mark your circle between 5-9 ft diameter respectively.

Equally important, you must mark your circle starting from the East slowly moving clockwise, finishing again in the East. You must think of this circle as a permanent marked area that you will redraw for each time you intend on doing your ritual work or spell.

After you have completed your circle, it is then time for you to decorate your temple or altar (that is the area around the circle). And you can do this by hanging meaningful fabric, pictures or posters on the wall. You can also position candles around the altar room to give it that mystical feeling and appearance. Your decoration can range from simple to elaborate, whichever choice you select you must ensure that it evokes strong spiritual feelings.

After you have decorated your altar, it is necessary for you to complete an overall purification and intense cleaning of your altar space-that is you must carefully prepare the purified water for your ritual. Additionally, ensure that you ‘charge’ the cleansing water with pure and positive energy. After which you will then use this water to purify your altar space. You must ensure that the purification process is done carefully and precisely, else your altar will be tainted and obscured- and your space will not ‘feel’ right which in turn can disrupt and jeopardize your spells and rituals.

These are just a few of the many steps you should follow when learning how to create your wicca spell altar. There are many other altar set ups you can adopt, in addition to the numerous objects you can add. Nevertheless, the latter steps must be a reflection and example of how your wicca spell altar should be created. And once you have completed these basic steps…you will then have your wicca spell altar where you can perform your spells and rituals.

Geraldine, when I was in school I kept a small wooden drawer I’d found from an old dresser Grandma was tossing out. I put my candles, altar cloth, athame and such in it, then slid it under the bed when not in use. A quick pull, flip it over and voilå! Instant altar! Just be creative and do what feels right.
